"Home Movies" is the title of the new DVD the band has just released (I don't even think it is OUT officially yet, but you can keep you eye on the DUB STORE to get your copy soon). Produced by band member Chas Waltz & Brett Spivey, it was filmed during live shows at The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach (also home to Alive, Alive O). I am sure this DVD will be of particular interest to those that were at The Belly Up when it was shot (like me), but I am positive it will work to cure the common doldrums for you Dubsters that are more scattered than us So Cal people.
One of the things that I think endears The Dubs to their fans, is that they make every effort to meet and greet at every show possible. I have never been at a show that I felt that the band was just going thru the motions to collect a paycheck. "HOME MOVIES" is no different. You really get the feel of being at a show, up front and center (just a little dryer) There are some really cool touches too, instead of a menu of chapters, you see a picture of Dave holding a set list, and you can jump to what ever song you feel like listening to. If you've always wanted to sing along with Keith to Rocky Road......now is your chance. By choosing the subtitles option, the lyrics appear.
Then there is the behind the scene shots of the band....you really get to see a side of them that most of us have never seen before, especially of Bren.
While the DVD conveys the feeling of a home movie, it by no means looks like one. Chas and Brett have done an awesome job of putting this together. I found myself smiling all the way through it.
It is almost as good as being at a show.
Ya did good boys!
